this is my first attempt at a portrait in 25+ years,what do you all think
what needs improving...i

not bad. I would get rid of the contour lines on the chin and nose if realism is my goal. I prefer to use light grids when drawing portraits. Proportions are so pesky for me. How long did this one take?

Yea, i know what your saying about the dark lines, its just how i mapped in the important features, I am still learning as i go
I had no formal art schooling, I was just sorta always able to draw half decent...but NEVER showed anyone my doodling.
I did this one a few months ago and probably around 3 1/2 hrs would be my guess

It does have that wanted poster look to it, but got to start some where!
there are soo many extremely talented individuals here it's intimidating posting my megar work but I'm looking to better my art so I'm just going to suck it up and learn what I can

No one was born tought, never forget that, you will get better, that's not a doubt, It only depends how much energy and Work are you going to put in. You'll see a lot of progress if you do at least a drawing a week

Just remember.. the key to portrait realism is to stop thinking of it as a face and instead look at it a shapes and tones.
If you have the eye for it .. and some of us do .. forget lines all together and start to look at different shapes and gradients of tones married together.
If you nail the shapes and tones perfectly then it will come out accurate.

Keep it coming if ya will, I've already have people bugging me for portraits, and there is no way in hell I will ever attempt to put one on skin till I can do them very very well on other mediums first, I'm not sure if ill ever be confident enough to tattoo a portrait but I'm sure as he'll determined to see if I can change that by learning all I can from those who can. Thanks

I think artists have strengths in certain areas and make a great living focusing their tattoo career on that.
