Wassup my name is Ben Verhoek. I tattoo at Simms ink in Hayward California. I've been tattooing about 5 years. I've always used coil machines until I got a bishop rotary about a year ago. It took me forever to figure out it out at which point I was so frustrated I sold it and swore off rotaries for good. Then recently a co worker let me use their stealth. I loved it and bought it then got another stealth from another tattooer then a swash drive from another co worker all for really cheap. I figure they'll be good for now until I can get some nice ones I want like a Dan Kubin Mike Adams or something like that. Mainly what made me want to get more into rotaries is the fact that the light weight and minimal vibration compared to coil machines could add on a few more years to my career before getting carpal tunnel or arthritis. Plus they seem more consistent when used properly and I've heard the tattoos tend to heal better when using them. I always used to associate rotaries with smooth black and grey work but noticed more traditional artists (the style I like to do the most) seem to be using rotaries nowadays. Anyways enough rambling from me.
