View Full Version : Sidewinder!!

Hello everyone!
Sorry I don't get on here too much. I am pretty busy these days, and don't have much spare time to get on here.

Anyways, I wanted to share a little about the Sidewinder machine.
it does sound like a coil, but about half the noise. To me, it is rather pleasant as it isn't raspy or chattery.
If it was a typical rotary that was as loud, I wouldn't want to use it, but the sound of the Sidewinder is very controlled and precise sounding.

I developed this machine to be able to line effortlessly right off the tip of the needle.
I had developed my MC machines for the same reason, but had a few people complain and say they couldn't line off the needle tips like they could with a good coil.

I don't want to go into too much detail about what is going on inside, or why it does what it does, as I worked very hard for a very long time to figure out what would work.
I've already had my adjustable stroke flywheels ripped off..(but since then I've made a better adjustable flywheel;) )I really don't want this getting ripped off any time soon!

Anyways, I set them up to hit pretty hard and mean, but they can be tuned and adjusted to hit softer.
I am always getting requests for color packers and large grouping liners, and this machine was tailored around those artists.
I also use them for fine lines, and my coworker at the tattoo shop uses them for his portraits.. once he adjusted the hit and stroke.

The price tag is a little stiff, at about $600, but that is because of the time and money put into every build.
As of now, it features a custom made ball bearing Maxon motor. The ball bearings support the shaft rather than the bronze bushings in the standard motors. This pretty much doubles the price of the motor, but doubles the life as well.

I am slowly starting to trickle them outside the USA as I am getting more comfortable with it's stability and my ability to troubleshoot issues via email.
-BUT to be safe, I'd prefer that overseas folks would just hang tight for another few months:)

I hope I clarified everything! I will try to make it back in a couple days to answer any questions.

Thanks again for all the support!!

I overheard one being used in Detroit. It is vocal but more a hum than a chatter. The sound actually caught my attention when i walked past the guy using it

It sounds worse unloaded.. it's a nice kinda sound when it's loaded and tattooing. Kinda best of both worlds rotary/coil sound. Should make any die hard coil fan happy with the sound and the way it tattoos... I'd imagine.

Like I said before, once you see one in person & you use it & understand how easy it is to be very accurate with your line work, the sound just isn't an issue. It just turns into the sound of fun. It also does color & shade work quick & solid too. The price is high, but do yourself a favor & save up to get one. YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT! If you do regret it, there is myself & at least 3 others above this post that will happily buy it or trade something for it any second of the day. You can't lose.

I have to agree with you. I can honestly say it's the best liner I've ever used hands down.. And I am in no way endorsing something because if any other reason than I bought it and it's frigging great.. I really have to say that it is all I use for lining and I use them for color and bng too. I made a slight adjustment on one of mine for a softer but fast hit.works perfect for the way I tattoo ..

I've used dan's machines for over three years now, but always for color and b&g, not lining.I recently got two of the sidewinders from dan, plus an mc14. I got the sidewinders for lining more than anything, but I must say I've never put color in as fast as I can with the sidewinders and a textured medium taper needle. literally one pass and the color is in 98%. it's just amazing. they aren't as quiet as dan's usual rotary machines(but not as noisy as a coil). I called dan and asked if he would take one back and let me buy a couple mc14's instead, after I realized they weren't the usual ultraquiet I'm used to with his machines. he agreed to do this. but then I used one of the sidewinders and it was all over. I love the quiet of his machines and I've become very spoiled by this low level of noise. I had to write and tell him thanks, but I was going to keep them both, after all. I felt like a nitwit. the savings in time packing color is amazing! and by the way, they are all amazing liners. very, very strong! no problem at all with 7's and 9's liners.

For some reason I read the first post and thought Dan wasn't shipping TO the USA lol. I feel stupid. Now I just need to save up. Dan, what is the wait list like for a Sidewinder?

serial1313

I don't think there is much of a wait at all. There is no list. I sent money on a Saturday & he shipped them on the following Thursday.

I guess the wait is just on me to get the cash together lol. Just might have to sell a couple of my coil liners.

Thanks everyone!
I do my best to get them to those who have been loyal customers.. I am a bit overwhelmed with requests right now, and it is mainly about getting ahold of me when my head isn't spinning!! haha
I am going to start putting them on my site now, selling everywhere. I try to post every Wednesday at 4:00 pm CST. I make a post on Instagram when I do. Follow me @dankubin for the latest news.
BEWARE!!! these are pro tools.. it's kinda like giving a toddler a loaded revolver.. if you don't know what you are doing:) -though they can be tuned to hit softer if necessary. (I do feel they run best on the harder side, and don't have problems putting in a solid 3 liner)

From March 14-April 1, I will be moving, and won't be able to build during that time.

The way it performs. It lines like a coil & I can move as fast as I want with it. They also color very fast too. They are also about half the size that they look. They should be considered a tattooing tool & not be confused with "just another machine".

artoftatt2
03-06-2014, 11:37 PM
More like a necessity than just a tool.. If you wanna hang with the big boys and pull lines with a 14rd loose on Buddhas belly you have to have one. If not you'll be struggling all day with needle bounce.. In all honesty even my weiner dog v2 from Seth can't put In a line that fast..

So there's no piston arm holding the nipple. What makes this so special... i am curious to hear why? All the good shit that you are hearing about them is not because we are trying to talk you into buying one, it is because we are all really impressed with them. We all already have more than one. If someone only has one they are trying to get a 2nd one. We aren't worried about who else buys one. We just thought that we would share the good news. Haha!

Just got mine in yesterday. Dan does great business btw. And plugged it up loaded just to feel and hear it. It is slappy, powerful, and has a nice consistent mild coil sound, which I liked. Judging by feeling the nipple it's going to hurt. Haha ones that hurt work the best IMO. Can't wait to tattoo with it today!

How it perform with small tight liners? how about vibration compared with a rotary or coil? I am looking for a low vibration liner mostly for small tights, I was thinking in a coil ( Al Zen or C.T.B.Irons hyperlight) to back up my thunder in hard-to-tattoo areas but after reading some reviews I add this one to the list.

I lined a decent sized mandala with a tight 9 and a loose 9 in 30 minutes with this thing on my wife's shin. The most painless tattoo she's ever had. Believe the hype. These things are awesome.

so how would you compare it for lining to the the mc13 i have?

crabink
03-08-2014, 03:58 PM
Did kubin make this machine fast with the stitch cycle of a coil liner.. like around 40 60 ratio .. like coil liners run?.. I am seeing this come to the market as of late (stigmas new machine).. and it seems now builders are mimicking the duty cycle in relation to stab time.. (the time the needle is impregnating vs the time it is retracted), creating the controlled fast stab and retracting of a great liner.

Deakon

Its like night and day. Sidewinder is amazing, I will still use my mc2 for fine line stuff though. Did use the sidewinder with a 4rl today though and it put a lovely line in as quickly as I could move my hand. No idea what is different but it does feel more like a coil

crabink
03-18-2014, 01:24 AM
I am pretty sure Dan Kubin is using a coil-like duty scheme.
What i mean is.. most liners are set to run with a duty of about 60% which means 40% stab.. 60% back up. What this does is creates a very fast stab like a coil.
For some reason Stigma, possibly gaston and kubin are all inventing the same thing at the same time.
It is called shared consciousness.. look it up... in the passed history thousands of people invented things all over the world at the same time.
It is because they are sharing consciousness by tapping into the source field. (study the work of David Wilcock and you will understand what I mean here)

This new technology mimics a coil cycle for stab and retraction, coupled with stroke lengths to achieve already known coil reactions. Like 40 duty for coloring and 50 for shading and 60 for lining.
it's no longer up and down.. it's how fast up and how fast down + what stroke length.

This is a good time to be a rotary user. shits coming! it's about to get real.

I sold 2 halos this week and am gonna try to get a sidewinder asap..

I would love for Dan Kubin to chime in on this please.

the collective is what i have always called the energy and souls all around us that feed our inspiration through crossover feedback. they will tell you that this is also a simple thing to in that trying to actively seek the best solution, leaves the fewest options to travel, thus many finding the same answer. philosophy it may be, but DAMMIT, i still seek a sidewinder!

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk By going to a casino you could possibly get further away from getting one. If you continue to save you will definitely get one. In other words if you continue to save you are going forward towards your goal which is a Sidewinder. If you go to a casino you are risking getting further away from your goal. The other thing is, if you thought the casino was a good idea to make money, you would just go to casino's for a living. There is some philosophy for you. Haha!

First he went over all his available machines and what they are best used for and their price range. He also wanted to get and idea what work I do and what I was looking to get out of the machines I ordered so he can make sure I get the right tool for what I need. It really seems that he truly seeks customer satisfaction and values that over the $$$. Plus the big unexpected bonus was that he said he would be able to ship it to me in a week. I just got my sidewinder mc-14 and DK-direct drive in the mail yesterday. I used my sidewinder to line a loose 14 on a thigh and woah boy. Not only was I able to do it 3x faster than I could line anything else but I barley had to push it into the skin. Fat ass sharpie lines single pass picture perfect effortlessly like butter. I also colored with the mc-14 at it's middle stroke setting and it did everything I needed it to do with ease. I still haven't used the DD yet but I have something later tonight coming in that I'll be able to use it on. Best machines I ever used. It's time to sell old machines to get 1 or 2 more. Tattooing just became waaaaaay easier.

Just got my Sidewinder today. Looking forward to this for a while now! Stoked!

It's got a wee bit more heft than the MC2 obviously, still it feels great. SO SMALL! Ran a 7round shader with it. Ran just fine. I'll take my time getting used to it but so far so good. It's right up there with my favorite liners in my stable. I do still very much enjoy my Blitz for lining, and I'm sure once it goes through its 'break in' time I'll dig it even more.

Definitely worth every penny. And Mr. Kubin has some of the best support of any machine builder out there. Nice to know it's supporting someone who can tattoo like crazy tough. And fast. Like a cat tied to a cruise missile fast... haha

I recently got a new sidewinder.

First of all Dan was so quick, it blew my mind. I received it in just three days! A lot of people complain that his website is always out of stock and I see people instagram him to try to claim his next machine. My advice is to just call him on the telephone.

Secondly, I am still in my first year of tattooing and my top priority has been to improve my line work. I lined with halos, vivace, Mickey sharps, Fk aluminum galaxie with mixed results. I know, I know, it's mostly practice and technique but I wanted to expediate the process by finding " the perfect liner.". After reading this thread I bought a sidewinder.

I have to say that all of your claims are true. It is the best of both worlds, coil and rotary, and kinda acts and sounds like it too.

This thing puts lines in solid 95% of the time in one pass. The vibration and balance is good enough to give me confidence with fine lining. Long story shorter, I don't hate doing linework anymore and I'm twice as fast.

I have also used it for packing solid black with a 15 curved mag and it was quick, responsive, and healed solid.

I'm pushing it on the other guys at the shop. Paul now wants one after, I Shit you not, his first pass doing fast B&G.

I think I need another one!

Bought mine in April along with a MC-14. Since then sold 4 or 5 of my old machines and ordered another sidewinder and MC-14. I let a few people at my shop try them and they were instantly convinced and also bought some. It totally changed the game.

Simply message Dan, if you pay up front he'll build you what you wish, he's just sent me a Sidewinder in all black, it'll be the seventh machine I've had from him.
