View Full Version : I have no idea what this is

I think I have seen a picture of one before but I can't find that part of my memory at all. I don't think they are rotaries to be honest.

I saw them on eBay and have won them.

I want to say it is a very early pen type machine, however with a vertical slide that travels through the solenoid. The slide or piston holds a cut down needle bar and I believe it uses a special autoclave able tip/tube and I think the slide is clave able too. Like I said I saw a photo or ad for them once some years ago but I don't know who made them or anything else. I would really love some help.

Sorry for the poor photos they were the ones included in the ebay auction. That I might add was worded with almost zero information.

I believe I once saw a photo of someone tattooing with one that was dated in the 70s or 80s, I am assuming that they are older creatures.

Thanks in advance. I will update when I receive them.

So nobody has ever seen one? There was a mention in the auction saying something about "Uni Karte" only ever made 20 machines. I can't find any information on a machine called that.

So, I have them. 6 to be exact. I have no idea who made them. They are exactly how I thought they would be. A central solenoid ( hollow coil ) with a slide that acts as the coil center more or less. No markings at all. Very interesting machines for sure and damn near silent. I have tested them with the power supply that came with them and they are even somewhat adjustable. I was able to short the strike down to about 1mm and boost it up to about 3.5.

Is kind of a coil sistem but with a piston instead of a armature bar right? kind of this industrials electric cilinders.
How you put the needle into it?
By what I understand this woud work good when you could adapt a cart grip.

You have the right idea tattoo-kid. I bet it would work good with a cart.

I bet too, also would have a perfect control with a frequency manager device, like those infinity from UK.
Is a very interesting concept, and probably have 100% give, once that is pure magnetic force making the down movement.

I think the person that made the LOD must have seen one of these and decided to miniaturize and modernize it. Although I haven't tried it with a normal power supply yet, I am assuming it uses pulse width modulation as I can't see any contact break points. Coolest thing is that it is nearly dead silent.

Have you taken one apart yet?

Not more than taking the heatsink fins off and the tube/ tip off. There apears to be two models. One the tube/tip is stiff and it uses essentially a cut down needle bar. The other had some flex to the tube/tip and the needle bar is inserted into a tube with a spring. Almost as if to add some give and flex. Very strange indeed. I will try and take some pics of this is the next few days and possibly try them in a normal power supply.

I'd snag one too, if you're selling a few extras...

I may part with some. However I am considering donating one or two to the tattoo museum in Amsterdam. I still can't find any information on them so I don't know the value. If only 20 were ever made then they are quite rare indeed.
