yeah basically monochrome is full colour opaque greys,

i use silverback insta black and all intenze for my colours and whites. 11 mag is my normal, flat or curved, doesn't matter, and a 3rl for sharper bits, none of my images are edited for contrast like most nob heads do, the soprano was taken the morning after. both the grey ones have come back in healed nicely, cos I'm picky i tend to go over the black and add some extra white in to make it stay deeply saturated, about 6 weeks later.

i try not to put out more than six shades but i seem to end up with unto 8 or 9 depending on how much contrast there is.
normally i go like this

white
white mixed with silver platinum
silver platinum
blue silver or purple silver (depending on the look I'm after)
platinum
platinum mixed with black
platinum mixed with mostly black
black

needed to do a lot fucking around with transitioning to figure out what they look like in the skin, they go in way dark n about 30mins later they seem to lighten massively so it can get frustrating while working in the darker areas, so much easier than grey wash though, hope that helps
