beautiful machine,interesting set up ,gets me thinking if you could set up a proper cam driven rotary with a profile to mimic a coil machine or is an offset circle perfect anyway?

Well that seems to be John's thing, he seems to be set on mimicking the hit of a coil with his own originality thrown in. I think he asks 400-500$ for a machine so at that price I think he must be pretty confident in it running well too. Plus he is super down to earth, and a really nice guy.

4-500$ is more than fair considering the amount hours of hand work put into EVERYTHING that man makes.

definately ,I'd say $400 - $500 is cheap compared to the cost of mass produced machines.

looks cool, but springs wear out. i like the nedz idea (don't own one) but i know you can get replacements springs if they get weak.
