Yea it's amazing how many artist I've met since I started tattooing that can't draw for shit. If I owned a shop there would be a daily 1 hour art class mandatory

^^^ That's a great idea, shop I worked at in Hollywood had monthly art contests. We would make up lotto slips with our cool secret ideas and put them in a jar any time we wanted. And we had another jar for the medium type. Not many rules but you had to follow guidelines and nothing that was larger than 16"x20"(x16"if it was 3D). Then we'd randomly draw a subject and a medium and it was due at the end of the month. At the end of deadline the pics would be hung(no signatures) and numbered. Votes from any random people that would wander in, customers to delivery guys, would be counted and the winner chosen. Then we'd pick the next ones...
Oh and the prizes were all the originals!!!

At my shop we use to have a monthly art class and/or painting nights. It became a pain when I couldn't keep them all on task. I've been hinting to them that I want to do it again. I think they may try harder now knowing that I will take it away if they act like kids. When we were doing it, I saw improvment in their skills all the time...

That's simply an awesome idea hands down. A lot of people get to that point when there comfortable with the work they do and just don't strive to be better.. Then sit around and wonder how paul booth pulled off a piece or how nick Baxter made something look like its really glowing.

This idea got me thinking. I text and e-mailed all of my staff and asked what days work best for doing art nights again. Looks like we will be starting again in a couple weeks...
