Great job! My Stealth was my intro to rotaries. I'm thinking of getting a Swiss since they are so similar.

That's really good, what stroke length Stealth are you using?

thanks.it has the long stoke, and with the damper i use it now between 6-7 volts.without it needs around 8 volts.i was surpised also but it seems like the force of the stroke is much better because of the up and down motion.i never had an dragonfly tattoo machine in my hands but i think that is the same method that they are using.tomorow i ll upload some photos with the "thing"-it s a raw model, not painted,no nothing yet.yesterday and today i used it and i had the impresion that i hold a marker in my hand,so i made a tattoo in 1,25 hrs that otherwise would last about 2 hours.you can feel the diference quite well when working around 7-8 hours

Did you just ad a slip to the cam at the arm pulling the armature down? Been meaning to try that with a stealth belonging to Alie K that has been rattling around for some time not being used.

You can get the real stealth from dinodirect for $50.00

1436 Damper for the stealth

Oh I see how it works now, that totally changes the machine stroke too in so much as it no longer has an arcing motion. The grommet looks different too I've not seen them with a closed end cap before.

Very clever prototype otto! Have you thought of using teflon or delrin for your piston?

otto
02-02-2011, 12:04 PM
yes,the arching motion seems to have a bad effect on the force distribution

otto

oh i just replyed to this and did not appear.
inside the cylinder are 2 metal pistons and a spring ,and the next will be with teflon and spring tension adjuster, just to see how it works and sounds

here is a tattoo made entirely with the "thing"1437

The builders from Special Technique may argue differently, well lots of builders may argue differently... its what the forum is for. ;) Special technique has taken a very different approach to the placement of the pivot of the standard armature bar type machines. What you are working on is very cool and hopefully we will see it out of prototype and into production soon. :)

That would almost make it run like a Rapier/ Rotory Works! Would be cool if you perfected it and sold it as a stealh add on!

totaly agree with you,but on this machine seems to work better.before i could not use the machine at 6 volts, not to speak about 15 mag...,and as far as i know smaler voltage=smaler motor wear :)....?

Really depends on the motor. Some are just naturally slower but have a crap ton of torch. The one advantage to a machine that runs a little higher is you have more spread to make finer adjustments in your voltage and speed. if a motor kicks off stupid fast at two volts you have effectively only an on and off switch no dimmer.

Is much quiter? as they have alot of chatter and you must put rubberband around back like a gromment

tru admin the gen 5 i have has shit loads of torque can push any thing but not as fast as the new ones that have less torque but man can it put the color and black in with big needle setups!

if everithing is oiled, the sound is very nice

When you change to teflon make sure you check the type of lube you use so it will be happy with rubbing on plastic.

Damn ! Clever stuff ! Do you line with it too ?

otto

thanks! it s a good liner too,i can handle it better than any coil mchine

Did you think it was OK as a liner prior to your modification as I don't get on with mine at all.

otto

not at all,i didn t like the way it lined before so i used coil machines for lining.i'm speaking about liner needle configuration ,cause in most cases i use for lining the 5 round shader-constructed lines

I'm actually glad to hear that; I was beginning to think it was just me didn't get on with a stock stealth.
