Hey Dave I use markers a lot and was wondering if you used color pencil with this?

artoftat yes i usually mix the 2 when i do these.. i do alot of layering . markers first then alot of lighter tones with the color pencils. i also usually do the entire piece with cool or warm grey markers(full value range) and layer the color markers over the greys then put light tones and highlights with the color pencils. i just started putting pure white highlights in with liquid paper and getting kick ass results.

Really impressive! My only observation is that the wolf feels like it could be a separate piece...

Really great work. Fantastic through and through. I would live to see a step by step on you execute your coloring process. Thanks for sharing.

cool thing about using the greys as the first step and layering colors over them is it mutes stuff nicely. i much prefer earth tones and muted tones over bright colors. if u want to do brights i wouldnt use anything darker then a 40% grey for the undertones and the 40% only for darker areas. . i usually do black marker first and then whip out with an 80% then 60% 40% 30%. i leave a little bit of pure color off the 30% before i do the light tones with color pencil.
