here is a new rotary ive been working on this week, i used a bearing from a direct drive canister type machine to push the piston, i also mounted the frame on an eikon spring for a bit of give, so far so good!

Wow, that's certainly different... I like it!

WOW,looks a bit weird and more complicate than it is !
But i like it !
What is the weight of the machine ?

hey thanks guys! weird is good! this machine weighs slightly less than my neo tat, so around 6.5 oz

Well thaught out! it seems you have taken the best of everthing and came up with a workable machine! I see you would have give in 3 areas-the connecting rod gromment, the a bar area, and the coil spring on the bottom, cool because i could see the bottom spring prob arching back at an angle like a coil machine, that combined with the other give area msut feel pretty close to coils.

Oddities of badassness! Try an O-ring under the front sprint screw (does it "bounce")

haha! thanks, the o-ring is a great idea! this machine actually has 2 points of give, a very small amount in the connecting rod grommet and the rest is in the spring between the frame and vice, unlike my other linear mod where all the give was in the a-bar by not directly attaching the connecting rod to the a-bar piston, relying on a coil spring for give on the down stroke

Going by the pic, it seems like there would be a bit of a bounce and clacking (like a-bar > coil top) causing a bit of vibrations that you may not want. The O-ring cushion might help that and change the give a bit too.

hey i used a 22ga spring on it which is really stiff, and actually there is no clacking or bounce, but i will try the o-ring idea to see if there is a difference

Investing in a thread tap and the drill bits to go with it will help to remove some of the extra bolts you need to put on everything. also helps if you have a drill press to keep it all aligned when tapping your threads.

thanks for the input, i do regularly use taps, i also like to re-purpose parts from other projects or coil machines that may be already drilled or slotted and i just go with it, i guess that makes for a few more bolts here and there! its all just for fun!

Worth a quick try. None the less, this is one cool way to re-purpose one of those china cans

This is a perfect example of why this board rocks. The ideas flow and gets the gears moving.

hell yes! very glad that i stumbled onto this site, lots of fun to see and share ideas with people that get it!

Is that a grommet holding the crank on?

fyxation

yes it is, seems to add a bit of cushion, plus if it ever starts to wear i can just pop another one on

I thought that on both. Franco started a thread on the cushion of the nipple grommet.
Clever, beats a c-clip to some extent.

pretty cool.
I had to work out quite a few kinks in my dampening direct drives to get them to tits..don't see those same mods, but maybe the stiff short spring helps a bit..especially if there are two points of dampening.

thanks dan, you build some really beautiful machines! i know what you mean ive had to experiment with different gauge springs and what not to get that sweet spot, i also have another stealth that i modified with a spring dampened vice that works really well, ill throw a pic of it up.2236
