Do you use the soft clip at all-I love the whip with hard clip for lining but cant get on with the soft clip for shading-it can get such a long stroke that backsup that its hard to tell what depth the actual needle is going in(at least to me ,lol!)
it came with the soft clip installed and gave me major issues and slowed my work down tremendously. i had to switch to the hard clip set at about half way depending on the area of the body. worked great after that.
i use a direct drive to line actually. a little machine a coworker at my old shop gave me. dont even know the maker but works great. small, light and zippy. probably some chinese ebay one, but ive had it for a while and all my other machines had given me probs, but i used that thing to line and worked just great
