Old Timer question ?

Had an old timer for Christmas :) aint used it yet but ive set it up a few times just to get the needle fitting correct. But that is one hell of a throw,,,,,,,,,, more than I usualy use for colour to be honest. Soooo, I just wondered how you Old Timer users set them up and a rough Voltage for colour (feels arround 6v for colour to me) all the advice/tips will be ever so welcome :) .

How much throw? Whatever, you want about 3mm protrusion as in working throw from the end of the nozzle.
