Its a definate fake Bishop. I can spot those things rather easy nowadays and unfortunately theres been alot of "Professional" tattooers that knowingly try to sell them as REAL ones. if he was unsure, he shouldn't have tried trading it until he did the research that you had done. to me it sounds like he was trying to unload a shitty machine he possibly got in a trade. if you don't know you find out, and all of this is done before trying to post a trade to someone else. just bad form imho.
Take it apart and take a pic of the motor and serial no. if there is one.
