?? Rotary Works ??

Hi there i am somewhat new to rotary tattoo machines and was curious why i dont see more people with the Rotary works in there top drawer photos. by all means the machine IMO kicks ass. I let the owner of the shop im at use it he fell in love with it and was cranking lines out like nobodies business. He has been tattooing for over 15 years and had me order him one. At this quality and price Im just trying to figure out why more don't use them. Again this is out of pure curiosity on my part. Also buying these rotaries is addicting as hell and expensive and before i buy anymore, what are every ones opinion . thank you for any response..

Yeah, I'm waiting for him to get back to me when he has more black aluminum machines.

I dont know why people dont include them in their top drawer.. It seems like every single rotary lover have one, or at least use to have one.
I bought two of him last month.. Love em. Perfect for lining up to 9's - 11's and fast smooth shades. A simple, light machine with no extra hizzlin fizzlin whatchamacallit..

I have a black aluminium, a red aluminium and a green patterned 3.5 stroke I.D machine that i pre ordered too.... Best machines going pound for pound...

I must be the exception to the rule in rotary works machines - they line great but I found the shape not suitable for me and it used to dig a groove into the back of my hand on long lining jobs.
Suits everyone else so it must just be me ;)

I have always said the RW (any model) is in the top 3 of all the Machines I have ever tried.....The Treble,is the best value all round machine on the market and imo, nothing comes close..

I bought a Slim Line RW couple of weeks ago and Im using it on every tattoo since either with a 9 or 13 mag for bng and coloring. In the beginning it felt like cheating because everything went so much faster in an instant and the results were just solid...

The only thing I didnt like was that I could use regular rubber grommets... But a tight o ring and some super glue did the trick ;-)

I know.. grommet eater :) Smart thing there with the o-ring. I just put a small amount of Petroleum jelly on the back of the grommet.. Seems to be working for me.

That's not Dales Needle tensioner, right? Looks a bit like a Burkalov-thing

as for the grommet situation, I have been using paper towels, at first it was kind of awkward as it was new to me but now i use them on all my machines, i also use disposable grips and started wrapping the grip in paper towels..lol..
I got the answer to my question, I think its come to a point were i need to stop jumping around to different machines, and just fine tune my technique with these machines and see all i can get from them. I saw a post similar were it may be hurting more than helping when i keep trying new things rather than stick with wats working for me. IMO.. Rotary Works and Nicks Rotary do everything with so much ease. just seems effortless when tattooing and makes it a pleasure to work with. I will say that i have a feeling those mini crankers all though i havent tried them wood complete my line up but a for now I'm gonna stick with my Rotary works and Nicks rotary . Thanks again

papers good as grommets.. clean and shit. can use a shim or washer behind the grommet as well to prevent grommet butt-munching..

Firstly, we nearly all own or use Rotaryworks, as Skinmech has said ,value for money they take the biscuit and Dale is a faultless gent to deal with. "THE GROMMET ISSUE" there isn't one-I always put my grommet in the needlebar eyelet first and then I give it a good squeeze with the pliers,and then I set it up with the tube and the machine,when you push it onto the nipple only go as far as to stop just short of the slide-piston housing or it will bind SIMPLES.

Well I said something I didnt like its just something I wanted to change on my machine... I got to admit I didnt even try to run it without the o ring and I didnt want to use paper towel as well.

There's nothing wrong with the little o-ring trick,it certainly doesn't hurt and actually if you do use paper towel (which you don't like,nor do I ) it's probably best to glue a little o-ring in place. Someone on here actually took some nylon thread and tediously wound and glued it around the nipple to form a little ridge, no harm done and some people enjoy playing.

Heres another reason i love these machines. I contacted dale about a replacement motor for a springer i got in a trade. who knows how old or how well the past owner took care of it. I contacted him about the cost of a replacement motor and how much it wood be. He is gonna send me one at no charge that is top notch service. :)

these machines were designed to work great with paper towel groms-they run so smooth with them-why dick with rubber ones.:confused:

I prefer a "soft" gromm when running a RW for colour, and go for a "hard" gromm when lining..The paper towel is perfect as well, as like a soft gromm, it offers some dampening properties...Use what suits your style, it isn't law...LOL... :D

Slick, are you telling me that before Dale designed his machine he sat staring at a piece of paper towel?.....................................only kidding my man,but what you said just tickled me;).

I have 2 RW machines and I love them, I use paper towel, but Ive heard mention that putting a small fiber washer behind a rubber grommet it will keep from getting chewed up, I haven't tried it myself but thought I'd mention it. I ought to try some kind of needle stabilizer needle runner setup too, cause the corner edges snap rubber bands on me. I love the RW machines and Dale was great to deal with, top marks in my book.

haha pete! this comes from the main man himshelf-that is all he uses and designed the machines at first for himshelf. So I would think there was never any thought to make them work better for rubber groms which are somewhat new.I can still remember using tape on my coil abars. and peter i bet you did to as your old then me!:p

is the give on the springer very good.. can it run soft?

I found silicone tubing works for me. I can cut it to size and that way it doesn't touch the frame, so no shredding and no need for any modifying of the nipple of the machine.

i like it. with the increase in give the stroke also increases. u can use max give and it hits super soft. just like a coil really where u put ur finger on the armature bar to see how hard its running . same concept. u can touch ur finger to it an watch the needle back way off and im talking way off if u run it slow enough with max give. i think it a good introductory adjustable machine because it works great and a great price. if u find u like the give maybe an investment into more expensive adjustable is a good idea or just get another springer.lol. for me i learned i really dont need the give and usually used this machine for b and g with no give because at that setting i believe its 2.5mm. max give i believe is close to 5.. great machine IMO.. it really can do everything the standard RW does but has a lil adjustment if u like

Yep I remember ,and I did do that,surgical tape you just built it up until the eyelet went on snug. Sometimes back then when you baught a new machine there was sometimes a wax coating on the nipple. It doesn't surprise me that Dale still uses some of the old tried and tested methods, he is the son of Dave Diamond after all.

yep spauldings use come with that white tape on- ready to rock when they were new.

2.5 is stardard? you sure thought it was 3.5... 2.5 would make it a b&g machine .. which is fine... thanks for your reply

the standard rotary works is 3.5.... the springer is not the standard the stroke depends on howmuch give on the springer.. no give is 2.5.

Tattood def write up a review when you get your ID, that's the rotary works I have towards the top of my to buy list so I'm def curious to hear some good reviews on her. I've heard nothing but praise about Dales customer service and machines. In all honestly I probably don't need it but if for no other reason I will be buying one just to support a great builder, and a great guy. Mick!

Dale is great man any questions any concerns he is there and willing to help. Also backs his machines to the fullest.. any thing goes wrong he will make sure its taken care of asap

hi first of all i would like to thank you all for starting this thread as i,m not on here that much dont get to read and comment on your coments but i would like to say thank you all for your support and me making machine could not do without the help from all you ....so i big massive thank you ,,,,on the kitchen towel thing the machine was designed around the kitchen towel why you ask because its a pain in the arse to get used to but.. 1 its single use as tattooist not all bag machines and we all love to touch the nipple when running when finished in the bin it goes ....2 we use kitchen towel every day and we have loads in our station so cutting a strip and folding twice to get that square shape perfect free grommet and 3 if you think about it depending on how many or how less folds in yhe kitchen towel it acts as a hard grommet or a soft grommet acting as a bit of give in the machine ....its just my way i work and keeping simple ....many thanks dale ...

Dale u are the man with the master plan. I think im speaking on behalf of all who use your machines and have dealings with you.. when I say "THANK YOU" for making a great machine at a great price and providing great customer service...

Ive had my ID two days now...fantastic machine,smooth as hell and a great B&G machine...Its in glorious pink.... top quality at amazing price...

Just received my first brass rotary works machine, well impressed ! Most folks with the 6V motor suggest running between 2.5 - 3V, can anyone give me some figures for the 12V machine before I give it it's first outing ?

All you need to do is double everything....Including the "workable bandwith" so...2.5v-3vs has a range of 0.5 volts so double that...And you now have 1 volt to play with..so as a "very" rough guide 5 volts to 6 volts will be your starting point,,,,,,,,,Start off slow and low and increase the V's as you go.......You can safely work below and above 5/6volts...Depends on how you work..P
