If you need to shorten your armature nipple ,grind it down gently with a Dremmel ,trying to cut it is a rather agressive action, that's how you can overdo things. You say no stay up spring? That surprises me as the machine is back sprung like a coil, though that doesn't really bother me, my RW has no return spring. It'll be interesting to hear what you have to say about lining with it.
