Hawk Thunder w/o Startup Chip... OVER 9000!?

I got my Thunder the other day. I understand operating voltage is 6-12V, but when I tried a 13mag it wouldn't start unless I turned it up to 14.5V. I'm only on it for a quarter second before I switch it back to 9V, but is this potentially damaging? I contacted Cheyenne but have not received a reply yet.

I had the same problem with mine, I have ordered the cable that should have helped starting it, but it proved that is actually doing less spinning on the motor that without it. I was running it on a Critical CX-1. But I've managed to run it on an big power supply like Micky Sharpz sells, or Maplin in UK. It runs just fine at 12v. Just like you I didn't wanted to put more voltage in the machine not to void the warranty. Probably the best idea is to buy a PU II.

Ive got a start up cable now but I was doing a kinda jump start turning it on off on to get it going. if you have it set with a lot of needle hang it makes it harder to start.

The Cheyenne pu makes a world of difference. Seriously 260$ is a cheap supply and well worth it.

Yea, I just finished consolidating needles to sell off to pay for this. I'll sell of my CX-1 too as soon as I get one. PU1 and PU2 both have the chip yes?
