My 2 cents is there is no need for a stay up spring...all the machines I've tinkered with run better without them. I really dont understand their purpose.

Their purpose is to keep the needle in the tube when the machine stops =]

haha yeah but what advantage does that give? I guess I've been using neumas and such for too long.

I'm really good at pointing out the obvious lol!
A needle hanging out is not just not safe in my opinion, its a hazard.

Shit no Asa, you should ALWAYS pay attention when tattooing. I really suggest you do this its important. I mean a hazard like when you are using another machine for example, and the machine is resting on the table, the needle if exposed is prone to picking up dirt from the air and so on.

Haha... I only pay attention some of the time.... that same dirt in the air is gunna get there regardless of the needle hanging out or not. And maybe pay attention where you set you machine down? And so on.

I suppose that is true- when setting the machine down, might not notice the needle tipped of something. The needle point microscopically is very delicate, and tattooing someone with a damaged needle isn't good. Course if the needle is in the tube, that can't happen.
