    Your right, Michael, the bobbing of the motor makes a difference.
    there is a somewhat hidden spring in there that counteracts the bounce of the motor to a degree..
    the thing is, when it backs off, it charges the spring and then bobs down, adding more speed to the downward needle travel. (that's my guess anyways)
    on another note, the tattoos I've done with them have healed faster/better than normal.
