Eh, I won't go see it. I refuse to be apart of the selling out of our profession. This is a profession that should be handed down to those who will not pervert it.

Another way of looking @ what you said is, "I am going to deny myself the joy of learning about tattooing(watching this movie), because people that don't tattoo are going to get to see it too." That is cheating yourself man.

I would not say it is cheating myself. I have been in the business for going on 28 years, I have had the pleasure of talking to and learning from quite a a lot of old timers, and some of the new artists as well. Add the fact that I can ask a question here or pick up the phone and call artists that I know if I get stuck with a technique I'm sure I have all my bases covered. Watching a movie won't help me if I can't ask a question. I'm don't think I am denying myself of anything really, I just prefer a different route.

Yeh, but the movie will have the story from different perspectives. I only have 20 years tattooing & I don't know anybody, so it sounds interesting to me. I wasn't insinuating that you would learn technique from the movie, just history & stories of how it all came about. I don't need for you to see it Haha!, it just looked like it would be more interesting than G.I. Joe & whatever other crap is out there, to people that tattoo. It just doesn't seem to be a Gleaming The Cube type of movie where they are just milking tattooing. It seems like a movie that won't be necessarily interesting for people that don't tattoo. Maybe?

shit main reason im going is the hole danny trejo aspect of prison tattoos and exploring the idea black and grey tattooing stemmed from it.. i find stuff like that extremely interesting, kinda stupid if i think about it but i did 4 years straight and ill still watch any lock up or gangland that pertains to california prisons or street gangs.lol.. most the time i just like to watch because i find it interesting the errors the t.v. shows make.. i will say as off late they are getting really good info and most the shows i see are almost entirely accurate in their depictions

I have never been a main stream artist, I have always kept a small shop, with close knit customers who I have had the pleasure of tattooing. I used to be a big convention whore and a look at what I do kinda artist. But now I try and be more about my art. I'm sure the movie will be interesting but I will have to say that it just seems like a money grab to me. For me being an artist is not about history, it's about creating. Our artistic influences are all around us. Our history is checkered at best, picking out what we need when we need it is how I have always been as an artist. Our biggest road block in this industry is not history, it's our canvases. They dictate what we can do, when the canvas is uneducated so shall our work suffer and our frustration with our craft increase.

So when I want to learn I turn to those that know and I can ask what I need to know. Our greatest form of education about our craft is education our customers. Something that the tattoo tv shows have not helped with, and neither will this move.

I know I may seem bitter, but I'm not I promise, I have just gotten to the point where I would rather concentrate on making better art, not falsely ligitimizing where my art has come from. It is about where it is heading and what I can accomplish. Art should be created for art it's self, not because someone dictates where and how.

Cool, don't go see it. I had a small paragraph written as a response but I just don't care if you or anybody else doesn't want to see it. I just wanted to inform people who do.

Well I'm going to see it, because I'm interested. And I'm sure others will go to because they are interested. The film was shown in London @ the convention never got to see it then, so I'm going to see in Norwich. To be honest you isnt going to learn anything apart from people's story. And there's nothing wrong in listening to people's story's. And if they make a pound or dollar from the time they put into then good on them.
