So what is the machine with the lowest running DB rating? I am asking about loaded with needle and tube and actually tattooing. Not the just attached to a powersupply and running. I know the real swash drive is pretty quiet. As is the Cheyenne. But what about the others? Any suggestions?

The Bishop is very silent but my Swiss Rotary is almost noiseless

I have limited experience with rotaries. I have played with a real swash gen 6 and a fake one, I liked them both but thought of them as black and grey machines. I want a machine for lining that is quiet. I have played with a Swiss machine but only to run it not to tattoo with it. I also didn't think of it as a liner. The Bishop and the Neo ( both similar in concept I think ) seem like good liner machines. It may seem strange but one of the biggest selling points of rotaries is how quiet they are.

I like the Hawk, but I hate that the tubes aren't reall autoclave able. As the more you clean them the sooner they break. And the cost too damn much. I can almost get on board with the expensive needle cartridges but too much money for the grips. Neo Tat really looks like the best bet. Thank you guys so much. What is your suggestion? The original or the Vivace? The Vivace is heavier right?

I am pretty certain that I am going to try and get a Neo Tat Vivace. I wrote Ray today and asked about shipping to Germany.

Out of the three Ive used, (Bishop, Org. Neotat, & my new one off) the Bisho and Neotat are side by side the quietest.

a direct drive is going to be the quietest. there is no friction in the mechanism except in the tube with the needle. they make good liners for 7's and below.
I prefer them more for 5's and below, but others swear by them for 8's and 9's.
everybody's hand's are a bit different, and can make or break the performance.

Yeah and I am on the fence about rotaries still. I don't have much experience with them. Well nothing recent. I used one a long time ago and there was a slight wobble to it. So I had to make all of lines moving left and right as the wobble would affect the line width. Now I also had never used a diamond tip back then and barely had a clue as to what I was doing. So I am sure my inexperience then had a lot to do with it. Now I have a lot of tattooing experience and want to try again. Last direct drive rotary I have used was in the 90s. Since I have played with a swash some for shadding, and thought it was brilliant but still felt like it was only suited for shadding.

there is deffinately more than an up and down motion that goes in to making a good liner.

Yes of course and I can see the benifit to a machine with an armature and spring as the action would be closer to a coil machine. What are the benefits of direct drive? What do your machines have that others don't?

The swiss is the quietest machine on the market. It sounds like a small fan humming.

One more vote for the swiss. Everyone in the shop Im in uses them exclusively. Four people working and it just looks like everyones staring really hard at the client. No noise.
I tried a dragonfly, and as soon as I turned it on, someone 25 feet away asked if I was using a coil (in jest, of course, but it was considerably louder than the swiss).
