Hello names Aramis and this is my first forum I've actually viewed and instantly had to be a pert of.
Ive been tattooing since 2000 and I've been a classically trained "coil machine" tattoo artist from the start. Used anywhere from Coastals and Northeast from Pappillion supply which I was told I could only use and own while I apprenticed. I've been using over the last few years Mickys Sharps T dials and my Paul Rodgers with a little Next Gen and Time machine thrown into the daily mix. About 2 weeks ago had to get new front and back springs on my 2 primary work horses (my Mickys) and I had to go through the couple days of hell trying to get them re-tuned and back to how I want them.
Well I've really gotten tired of F**king with my coiled machines. I'll get ready for my client and out of nowhere my coiled machine will just not sound or hit right so I have to drop everything and fuck with it tell I feel that everything's perfect. It gets to me pretty pissed and will even kind of drain me of my drive to do that tattoo while having to constantly tweak and adjust my machine when I usually just sit down start tattooing and have the hours fly by. So I got tired of it after 13 years and jumped on the inter webs and started doing some research. Always told that rotarys were "ok" but not very good when it comes to packing and lining, pretty much only B&G is what there good for. Well after 3 days of research and finding this Awesome "Rotary Tattoo Forum" (which I had to join), I decided I had been fed misinformation/speculation for years and decided its time to make the switch to Rotaries... Well last week I just sat down and ordered the new Stigma Hyper V3 for me and my old Apprintice/partner and a second Rotary Spektra Haylo for myself with a 3.2 motorbolt and a 3.6. I've seen some of the sickest shit being tattooed out there in the industry with rotarys and I love detail work and get a little overboard when it comes to texture and depth so I really hope I've made the right choice. If any of you Artists and builders have any feed back on my impulsive switch that could help me start out with a smoother transition to my new rotary obsession I would greatly appreciate it. Aramis

Welcome to the forum!
There is, quite literally, a wealth of information on this site. I'd definitely spend some time poring through the threads here. Lots of info. Lots of opinions, as well.
What it's all boiled down to, for me, is getting your hands on as many of the rotaries that piqué your curiosity as possible and see what works best for you.
Enjoy!

I would say you picked the right machines to begin your journey with, throw a neotat in there, or maybe an eddie lollis and you are on your way to full blown addiction. Oh and welcome to the forum.

Thanks bizarro12 and I've been doing that since yesterday and I'm extremely stoked I joined this forum and like a kid in a toy factory while reading the treads and checking out the builders and artists pages!
Thanks Wonderland! I can't tell you how many times I've had to stop myself in the last 2 days from buying other rotaries that I've came across on this forum! Wife's going to kill me when where bankrupt, but I'll be stoked.

Checked my status on my Spektra Halo and it arrived at our local FedEx hub! Just called to see if they will hold it so I can run and pick it up before it gets on the truck so I don't have to wait all day!!! Been a long week waiting for my first Rotary and I hope it's what I've been wishing for!! My Hyper V3 comes tomorrow so another restless night!

Welcome aboard, you'll find that a good rotary machine is a very capable tattooing tool and anyone that tells you otherwise is just a tool :p

Help!!!!! Just got my Spektra halo and put the motor in hooked up my RCA clip cord and set my volts at 6.5 and it runs for couple seconds then my Eikon EMS300 trips off???? Checked connections and everything is good. Spectra moves fine but barely makes a noise. Do I need to put lube on the stroke? Is something else required? My power unit is barely 6months old and its never done this!!!

Does your power supply have a rotary mode? Check for that. Its not the machine its a safety kill switch in the power unit.

17676 Used my first rotary "Spektra Halo" for the first time today and I wish I didn't have to start with a portrait but I have to say I'm damn glad I bought one cause I've never been able to tattoo as fast as I draw but I can now!!! I know it's not the best portrait and I had a bit of a learning curve but I haven't been this stoked in a long time! Tomorrow my V3 comes in!!

Haha yeah especially when I'm ordering on Monday a 2oz 60 color kit from eternal! Been using Unique pigments for close to 6 years and there great for solid work but real thick and not as easy to blend with.

Welcome man. Sounds like you're hooked already. I compare coils to a needy/high maintenance girlfriend. If you talk to her wrong or raise your voice in front of her she will act up. Always reminds me of "Eleanor" in gone in 60 seconds for some reason. "Oh, c'mon don't start with me, no no start start!"

The eikon ems400 is great. The reason you have to set your power supply to rotary mode is a rotary does not have follow through. It i wanting information for the readout which it is not getting so it cuts out. Have fun on the forum. The guys on here are awesome and filled with knowledge.

Thanks Nick & Slicksteel!! Have a bit of a rough go so far with my V3 today. Last night I used my Halo on that portrait like it was nothing and it was on the inside of this lady's arm but today I I started out with V3 at about 8.5 volts with about 3.6mm and it was hitting way hard and chewed up some top surface and I've need struggling with the whole piece. Doing a little black pack/ B&G It's on the outside of her calf so the skin is a lot tighter. Slowed down to 7.8 and gave the knob on the top 2 turns to the left tell I barely felt the vibration and doing better but what's the deal with tighter skin? Skim the surface at slower speeds? Help!???

I traded my Halo away, vibrated too much and I also thought that there was too much trauma to the area being worked. For lack of other words, it seemed "mean," lol. For whatever reason, I couldn't get on the Halo ship. I still like how my Swashdrive and Bishop pack and blend.

I really had more problems on the parts that I'm covering up. She has real shitty lettering and an olds hook blue bird and it only chewed up on those areas? Never had this happen with coils. does raised or scaring factor in with rotaries?

The common mistake is needle depth-start out slow and pay attention to how deep you go.you are already have great tattoo skills-its just getting the feel of the needles in the skin.I would say use some give till you get use to it then play with no give.

Whats up man welcome and enjoy the rotary journey. i am on it also and loving it. I will say i am still getting used to rotaries and learning to not overwork the skin. As of late on tight skinned areas i have been using a REVERSE STRETCH, meaning the exact opposite of stretching rather on say the side of calf im kinda squishing the area together making it softer and getting great results. also did technique on the top of shoulder and again applied the reverse strectch and worked great.. good luck man,,, by the way great protrait :)

Hell yeah that's a great idea! Shit after 13 years its sometimes hard to think outside of the box. Totally in17833 love with my new rotaries and I'm looking at a few more prospects but a little unsure on what's going to fit my style and speed of application. Love realisum and technical artwork. Third piece with rotary used my Hyper V3 on this one and the zombie bite took my a little over 2hrs which for me was awesome cause with my coils I would of been 4-5 hours.

Thanks sir and no I don't mind you asking at all. That's what this forums for.
Well not super used to the rotaries yet but I've really noticed I'm using my V3 for more small groupings like my 9mag, smaller 8 & 6 rounds cause its just faster (for some reason) and more precise at quickly tuning for them and my Halo is great for my larger mags, 13, 15, 17 (haven't tried with my 20, 25's yet but quite sure they will do fine) cause regardless of what speeds I've tried with my Halo it seems to be a harder hit with a smaller range of give. V3 is great for all my detail and Halo is awesome for solid work or B&G.
i hope this is to confusing of a answer/ramble.
